Controllinator-5000 Commercial

Roles: Writer, Editor, Director, Cameraman

The Controllinator-5000 Commercial was a class project where we were required to shoot a commercial for a product of our choosing. I decided that it would be fun to come up with a fake product, and together our group created "The Controllinator-5000", which was a broken fencing blade taped to a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

This was my first project using a shotgun microphone, and the biggest challenge I encountered was figuring out how to record just the audio I wanted while being outdoors. The first few takes of the first sequence, I kept picking up the wind or people talking nearby. Even in the final cut, you can hear some garbling from the Adobe Audition processing on the first few shots where Zaden sighs. For future shoots, I decided to do more takes than I felt was necessary just for the sake of erring on the cautious side. If I could do the project over again, I'd consider recording the sighs separately and dubbing them over the initial sequence if I wasn't able to get the noise suppression exactly how I wanted it with the wind blowing.
